The Right Wrong Thing Review & Giveaway - ends 10/4!

The Right Wrong Thing is the second novel in what I hope will be a long series following Dot Meyerhoff, the staff psychologist for the Kenilworth Police Department, a town somewhere in California. Kenilworth is going through changes and as the story opens is about to appoint its first female Police Chief. Kenilworth has only one female police officer, Randy Spelling, and has a history of  problems keeping female officers.

An incident where it was unclear if Officer Spelling responded appropriately, results in the involvement of Dot Meyerhoff who protects and counsels the new female police officer. But Dot becomes even more deeply involved, and perhaps inappropriately so, when Officer Spelling shoots a teenager who was reaching for her cell phone, not the gun that Officer Spelling anticipated!

Ellen Kirschman's experience of over 30 years as a police psychologist is evident in this novel. She writes with conviction about issues facing police officers, their spouses (male and female), relations between the black community and mostly white and male police and the relationships between adult children and their parents. You definitely know that she's been there!

This book covers a number of levels with lots of plot twists and turns.  "A person is only as sick as their secrets" Dot says at one point. Dot herself is the keeper of both the secrets of others and her own.

Through a murder investigation and multiple false turns, Dot becomes more and move involved until her own life could be in danger.  Throughout it all she works on her later in life relationship with her longtime boyfriend, Frank, who is finding dating a police department psychologist at a time in his life where th would like to have less, rather than more stress, much more demanding than he thought!

I enjoyed The Right Wrong Thing immensely and look forward to the next novel in this series. You can find the book HERE and purchase on Amazon. Ms. Kirschman has graciously agreed to give this same book to one of my readers!  Simply enter using the GiveawayTools below, US only please and good luck!

  2. My favorite books are autobiographies and true-crime. Right now I'm reading "Life" by Keith Richards. As I love crime and psychological thrillers too, this book sounds great!
