30 Days of Giveaways

Day 6: Conversational Cooking

Organized by Mom to Bed by 8 & Budget Earth

What is Conversational Cooking? There is no doubt that busy schedules and technology have cut into family time. With family members either lost in their handheld devices or racing to various events, so often the family dinner suffers. Conversational Cooking is designed to revamp dinner time and bring it back to family conversations. When Conversational Cooking author Anne Lawrence first brought a tabletop cooking device called a raclette home from the grocery store as an impulse purchase, there were no directions and no recipes, so she and her children began experimenting to see what they could cook on it. In Anne’s words, “That is when the magic began. The kids set down their iPods and gathered around the table and actually began cooking with me. Cooking on raclettes is so simple and easy that it makes cooking fun and accessible for nearly anyone and nearly any age. It was then that I realized that we weren’t just having dinner, we were having a conversation and we were having fun together! It was from those days of experimenting with that first raclette that Conversational Cooking got its start.”

What is a Raclette? A raclette is a tabletop cooking device. Cooking with raclettes has been a cherished tradition in Europe for at least 700 years, and it is just now becoming a trend in the US. Raclettes are safe and easy to use. Like fondue, the raw ingredients for cooking with a raclette are placed in the center of the table and diners choose their food individually. With the raclette, though, you’re not just melting a pot of cheese or chocolate for communal dipping, you are actually cooking. Each guest can have their own raclette and cook a variety of dishes on them. Variety is part of the charm.

What is included in the Conversational Cooking Cookbook? The cookbook features 22 family-approved recipes designed for the raclette. The cookbook is paired with either two or four Swiss Raclettes from Switzerland-based Nouvel, one of the world leaders in tabletop cooking items. Want to learn more? 1. I'm not sure what I would make on it, but that's just because I've never cooked in one before. I'd love to try it though!

  2. I think that this is a interesting concept to cooking and I like that each guest will help cook own meals, I think that something simple like grilled fruit would be great and easy or simple fruite kabobs.. Yummy then we can all talk and not mess up the cooking
